Physiotherapy

Physio treatment on ankleOur therapist will perform a comprehensive examination that consists of asking questions about your injury, symptoms, and general health, along with a hands on assessment of your injury or impairment(s). From there, we will make a clinical impression as to what we believe is the cause of your impairment(s). We will then educate you as to what we believe is happening as well as design a treatment plan that we feel will best suite your goals. Treatments can include many different methods as listed below.

Acupuncture

AccupunctureAcupuncture is a treatment method used to encourage natural healing, reduce or relieve pain and improves function of affected areas of the body. Acupuncture involves the insertion of very fine disposable needles through the skin and tissues at specific points on the body. It works by stimulating the body to produce natural endrophins.

IMS (Intramuscular Stimulation)

Intramuscular StimulationIntramuscular Stimulation (IMS) is a total system for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic myofascial pain syndromes (long standing pain when there is no obvious sign of injury or inflammation).

This type of Pain is often “neuropathic” meaning that it occurs and remains as the result of unhealthy nerves. Nerves can become unhealthy secondary to common conditions such as spinal arthritis or muscle injury.

IMS treatment uses acupuncture needles to release shortened areas of muscles that have become this way due to overstimulation from supersensitive nerves. If the muscle, and its supplying nerve, are neuropathic the tight muscle will grab the needle producing a cramping sensation. In turn, a receptor in the muscle will initiate a reflex relaxation of the muscle and all other muscles supplied by the same nerve. The most notable side affect of treatment is approximately 24 hours of minor muscle discomfort. The benefits of IMS are cumulative.
